This Demo Model, Schlick Cycles 54cm SuperFast Urban Assault Road Bike was built in 2010 long before the recent disc road bikes started appearing. This bike was made with an eccentric bottom bracket to allow for chain tension adjustment to accommodate a Shimano Alfine 8-speed Internally Geared Hub (IGH)! The idea was to build the ultimate commuter bike and the SuperFast lives up to the billing!
The red powder-coated, 54cm frame is Tom Teesdale built from TrueTemper Verus HT steel. The geometry is taken from Tom’s tried-and-true Allroad designs and can fit up to 35mm tires for sure. Depending on the tire you could probably even go 38mm. If you wanted to run fenders you could do up to 32mm.
Currently the SuperFast is sporting Fyxation Session 700 x 28 tires, which I find to be excellent urban assault tires, on Alex 28 rims laced up with black double-butted spokes. The rear hub is the Alfine 8-speed SG-501 while the front hub is an Alfine Dyno to power a 6v light system.
The Winwood carbon fork is great! It takes the edge off urban streets but is stiff as heck laterally for great steering response.
Moving to the cockpit you will find 440mm FSA Omega Compact bars, a black 31.8mm Thomson stem, and Versa 8 brake/shifters that are made specifically for the Shimano Alfine 8 IGH and are really slick.
Stopping power comes from Avid’s BB7 Road Disc brakes with a 160mm rotor up front and a 140mm rotor in the rear.
Everyday Cycles owner, Greg Smith, rolled this bike in his first year at the Riverwest 24 and rode it on and off for a couple of years before building another road bike so this one has only gotten occasional use for the past several years. We don’t know the mileage but it is less that 1,000 for sure. Could even be closer to 500. What ever the mileage it is in excellent shape and is ready to ride and take you on whatever adventure you are game for.
